Environmental Factors Influencing the Distribution of Barb Ati a Domingensis (mollusca, Bivalvia) on the Bermuda Platform

چکیده

Eight localities, representing four generalized environments, were sampled to determine the environmental relations of the small, byssally attached arcid bivalve Barb alia (A car) domingensis on the Bermuda Platform. The species was most abundant in turbulent environments and least abundant in the protected bays and sounds. It usually attaches to the underside of corals; occasionally it is found attached to rocks. The principal limiting factor on the distribution of the species appears to be the availability of suitable coral substrata for attachment. 2 Postilla Yale Peabody Museum No. 108

Influence of infestation by Labratrema minimus (Bucephalidae: Digenea) on oxygen consumption of edible cockle Cerastodema edule (Mollusca: Bivalvia) in laboratory conditions

Short-term oxygen consumption and filtration rate experiments were conducted to evaluate the response of edible cockle Cerastoderma edule when infested by the Digenean trematod Labratrema minimus. In this experiment the metabolic activities of bivalves were measured to detennine this particular aspect of the host-parasite interaction. We have used the Bucephalidae digenea Labratrema minimus inf...

Prodromus of Vertebrate Paleontology of Bermuda

Bermuda is an isolated oceanic island situated 1000 km ESE of Cape Hatteras, North Carolina (Fig. 1, inset). Its volcanic core, last active during the Oligocene (Reynolds & Aumento, 1974), was probably subaerial for some of its existence because rare basaltic pebbles and a small percentage of volcanic grains have been found in surface deposits. Apart from the initial volcanic origin of Bermuda,...

Preliminary studies on the impact of fish cage culture rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) on zooplankton structure in the southwestern Caspian Sea

The ecosystem of the Caspian Sea have been strikingly changed by human activities. This area has undergone significant ecological alterations and serious environmental degradation since the beginning of 1990s. The impact of fish cage culture on the zooplankton community was studied in the southwestern Caspian Sea, off Jafrud during January to April 2013. A total of 12 zooplankton belonging to 9...
